Fonds de solidarité FTQ

Local officers: A precious resource

Profile

The local officers of the Fonds enjoy working with people. They join the Fonds network to add to the scope of their union duties, to help colleagues save for retirement while fostering job preservation and creation in Quebec. They are the pride of their union and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ’s greatest strength!

Who are the local officers and how are they recruited?

Local officers are militants appointed by their union to represent the Fonds in their workplace. All of the local officers are Fonds shareholders.

What is their mandate?

Local officers’ mandate is essentially to promote the Fonds, its mission and its RRSP in the workplace. Practically speaking, this means:

  • making workers aware of the importance of retirement savings
  • encouraging them to become members of the Fonds in order to contribute to job preservation and creation in Quebec
  • promoting deductions at source as the best means of contributing
  • offering shareholders up-to-date services

Union action

By appointing local officers in a workplace, the union is offering its members a service they would not get elsewhere.

In fact, the main objective of local agents is to raise awareness of the importance of saving for retirement. In addition to promoting the Fonds, they carry out an educational mission that benefits everyone.

A lot of people think that they can’t afford to save for retirement. Thanks to the explanations and encouragement of their local officer, they realize that they can contribute to the Fonds RRSP.

The Fonds RRSP involves tax savings greater than those associated with conventional RRSPs. In addition, workers can take advantage of these savings on each pay cheque if they contribute through deductions at source. The Fonds RRSP is therefore an investment that is accessible to everyone.

The presence of a local officer in a workplace enhances union life. It is also another considerable advantage for union members: it makes retirement savings and planning easy!
